Hayden Montgomery - Junior Diver Profile
July 29, 2014 2 min read
13 year old Hayden has been getting some great southern fish lately and keeping up with the seniors in many spearfishing competitions. Read on to find out more about this young gun diver!
I would like to start off by introducing myself, my name is Hayden Montgomery and I am 13 years old. I have been diving since the age of 12 and have been competing since the start of 2013. For the past year I have been diving with a good friend and ADRENO sponsored junior diver Josh Green and his family and will continue diving with Josh! I'm very dedicated to my sport and I am very keen to learn off my mentors who are Central Coast Sealions and Newcastle Neptunes spearfishing clubs. I belong to the Central Coast Sealions and have been for just over 1 year - I highly recommend joining a club! I dive all state/club comps that I can attend and enjoy every single comp!
My achievements so far are:
2nd in sub jnrs Canada cup 2014
2nd in sub jnrs state titles 2014
1st in sub jnrs Australian pacific coast championship (11th overall)
1st in sub jnrs 3 way state spearfishing titles Eden 2014 (24th overall)
Most comps that I have dived have been pristine conditions with glassy water and great visibility, but on the other hand, some have been terrible with brown water and big swell where I have adjusted to the prevailing conditions! My latest comp, Eden, was one of the best comps I've dived where I have shot new and personal best species! Including a 1.7kg blue barred parrotfish!
Another one of my favourite fish includes this 6.5kg Flathead.
I have a sharedYouTube channelwith another diving mate that have about 8 little short clips of my spearfishing over the past 2 years! (Links at the bottom of the page) Be sure to have a look at them and I look forward to keeping you updated on my future spearfishing experiences!
Thank you!
