Hawaiian & Tahitian Spear Shafts
These shafts come fitted with a spear tip and flopper (or barb) milled into the spear shaft, meaning you're purchasing a continuous length of steel. On a Hawaiin shaft, the flopper is positioned on the bottom and for Tahitian shafts, it's on the top. Which one you prefer is slightly trivial, but it's good to stay consistent with which style you shoot with as it can slightly affect the spear's trajectory and your experience.
There are a few perks to their design, including their typically lower weight than a threaded shaft for the same length. This is especially beneficial for those toating smaller, less buoyant guns, as a larger and heavier shaft not only introduces the need to use more energy for each dive but can make a gun negatively buoyant if dropped. They're also faster and more streamlined when fired for the same reasons. Not to mention, they're basically the easiest shaft design to use. Easy reloading, easy to remove from fish, and they're cheap.
