PADI BASIC FREEDIVER COURSE
About the course

Must have adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health.

No prior experience with snorkelling, skin diving or freediving is required.
The PADI Basic Freediver course is a subset of the PADI Freediver course. It’s a great first step for developing solid freediving skills. You learn basic freediving principles and focus on practicing breath hold techniques in a pool or confined water site.This course will not only improve your freedving and in water skills but also benefit you life in so many other ways such as helping to reduce stress and helping you gain a better understanding of the process going on inside your body.
COURSE OUTLINE
- Knowledge development through independent study with the PADI Freediver eLearning (or your instructor may conduct class sessions if not available in a language you understand).
- Out of water exercise, learning proper breathing techniques, stretching for freediving and small yoga session.
- Confined water session to learn breath hold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea, plus proper buddy procedures. Goal – static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25 metres/80 feet. Perform a swim of 200m or 300m with equipment.
- Confined water session will also consist of safety and rescue scenarios on learning how prevent and treat blackouts.
Course Schedule
Day 1
- Meet to go to Stradbroke Island for a dive – depending on sea conditions and boat.
- Static and dynamic pool training until 16:00-17:00.
Day 2
Meet to go to Stradbroke Island for a dive – depending on sea conditions and boat.
- Time for 2 dives (each dive – 1 hour).
- Finish the course after a final theory discussion and brief exam around 16:00-17:00.
- This schedule is only for general knowledge. Times may change according to sea conditions and the will of the group.

Equipment
In the PADI Basic Freediver course, you learn to use a mask, snorkel and fins, and may also use a wetsuit and weight belt. Using gear designed specifically for freediving is best, however, in this course, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own.
You must provide your own gear, minus some spare weights that the instructor may already have provided,

Taking the PADI Freediver course is your first step toward discovering why freediving is becoming a popular way to explore beneath the waves And also to help us understand the beautiful oceans which gives all life to this planet.
This course will not only improve your freediving and in water skills but also benefit you outside life in so many other ways such as helping to reduce stress and helping you gain a better understanding of the process going on inside your body and mind.
Course OUTLINE

DAY 1 - Confined water session
- First we will meet at the local pool/parkland near ADRENO for the first out of water exercises, learning proper breathing techniques, mediation, stretching for freediving and short yoga session.
- Confined water session to learn breath hold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea, plus proper buddy procedures. Goal – static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25 metres/80 feet. Perform a swim of 200m or 300m with equipment.
- Confined water session will also consist of safety and rescue scenarios on learning how prevent and treat blackouts.
Day 2 - Open water session
We will meet either at ADRENO to travel together, if required, or we we will meet at the chosen dive site (Byron Bay to dive Julian Rocks, Gold Coast to dive Cook Island or Brisbane to dive Stradbroke Island or Moreton Island) - weather depending.
- Open water sessions to practice free immersion and constant weight freedives, plus proper buddy procedures, breath up techniques, recovery breathing.
- To perform a constant weight freedive of 10m
- Learn proper duck dive and entry into the underwater world
- To demonstrate equalizing and proper fining techniques as well as recovery breathing and preparations for consecutive dives
Course Price
Course price: $500 or $600 for a private course

Meet your instructor
Brett Davison is an Apnea International qualified Freediving instructor, but also a keen spearo which means you'll receive practical training that you can apply directly to your next spearfishing trip.
